As trustee of the Irish Life EMPOWER Master Trust, LawDeb Ireland DAC is completely independent of Irish Life, which is quite a unique feature in the Irish master trust market.

In addition to providing trustee services in Ireland, LawDeb Ireland DAC is a subsidiary of Law Debenture, one of the largest providers of independent professional trustee services in the UK, with a wealth of master trust experience. Law Debenture has been providing trustee services for over 50 years and has a team of 50+ pensions professionals delivering independent professional trustee and other governance services from their offices in Dublin, London, Manchester and Jersey.

The directors of LawDeb Ireland DAC are Keith Scott and Paul Torsney, independent professional trustees employed by Law Debenture, and John O’Connell, the independent chair and an experienced industry trustee and actuary.

Paul Torsney, Trustee Director

Paul is an actuary, an independent professional trustee and a former pensions consultant. He joined Law Debenture in 2021 to bring the market leading UK proposition to the Irish market. He is a trustee for a number of Irish pension schemes.

With 15 years’ experience advising trustees and sponsors in all areas of pension provision, Paul is also a Qualified Pension Trustee (QPT), a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary (CERA) and is both a council member and the former Chair of the Pensions Committee, of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland.

Keith Scott, Trustee Director

Keith is an accredited member of the Association of Professional Pension Trustees in the UK, a Chartered Accountant, a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder and has undertaken the PTP Certificate in DC Pension Plan Trusteeship.

Keith is also trustee for eight schemes in the UK including the Aon UK mastertrust and a large DC scheme in the retail sector.

Previously, Keith worked as an investment manager with BMO global asset management and was also IBM’s European Pension Director which included 7 years as trustee of the IBM Ireland Pension Plans.

John O’Connell, Independent Chair, Trustee Director

John is an actuary, pension plan advisor, Pension Trustee Practitioner, Qualified Financial Adviser and trustee with over 35 years’ experience in the pensions and investment industry.

John is a founding director of Trident Benefit Consulting Services Limited and Trident Pension Trustees Limited. Trident Benefit Consulting Services Limited provides pension advisory services while Trident Pension Trustees Limited is a corporate trustee to a range of group pension & life assurance schemes.

Prior to founding Trident, John’s career experience included roles as actuarial consultant and European Principal for Mercer and actuary at Life of Jamaica Limited. John worked early in his career in Irish Life, leaving in the early 1990s.
